Overview

A variety of conditions that affect the heart are referred to as heart diseases. Most heart diseases can be managed and stabilized with medicines. A healthy lifestyle, and dietary changes, can prevent the disease from getting worse.

Heart disease of some types may be curable. Healthy lifestyle modifications, medications (such as statins), and treatment for coronary artery disease (where there is a buildup of cholesterol plaque in the heart’s arteries) can stabilize the condition, stop new plaque deposits, and, in some cases, help reduce the severity of the disease.

Congestive heart failure damage can also be repaired with similar dietary modifications and medical treatments.

    Treatment

Treatment will differ with the type of heart disease you have. To determine how much plaque in your heart’s arteries has calcified or hardened, your doctor may also think about performing a coronary calcium scan. This test can reveal whether you are more likely to experience a heart attack or a stroke and assist your doctor in deciding whether you require a more aggressive risk factor management strategy.

Here are a few treatments that are done in common:

  • Blood thinning medicines
  • Statins
  • Beta blockers
  • Nitrates
  • Diuretics
  • Here are a few things that you can do to monitor your heart disease

Check your blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, body mass index (BMI) with your doctor, you should review these figures annually, or more frequently if they are out of the ordinary. Depending on your age and general health, there are different healthy ranges for these values. Your doctor will guide you with a plan to bring any abnormal numbers into a healthy range, if necessary.

    Prevention

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death for both men and women, but most of the cases are preventable. Physical exercise, diet, and quality of life, all have a significant impact on your body. You can reduce your risk of developing heart disease by starting small each day.

You should avoid smoking and drinking too much alcohol in addition to following a healthy diet and exercising. If you smoke, discuss ways to stop with your doctor.

If you think you might have severe snoring and sleep issues, it is better to get tested for sleep Apnea. Your risk of developing certain heart conditions can be significantly decreased when sleep Apnea is treated.
