With an eye at revolutionising the Healthcare experience of under-served populations of Bharat, Ujala Cygnus was established in November 2019 as a merger between Ujala Healthcare and Cygnus Medicare. Ujala Healthcare was the diversified healthcare entity of Amar Ujala Group, one of India’s largest Media brands, which enjoys tremendous brand equity in tier 2 and 3 towns and rural regions of Northern India. Cygnus Medicare, on the other hand, was created by professional doctors who stood up to provide high-quality secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities to tier 2 and tier 3 towns, especially during the ‘golden hour’ of critical care. It was established to bring succour to people who were forced to look to Metro cities during critical illness.

Operating across northern India, Ujala Cygnus Healthcare Services manages 25 multi-super speciality NABH-accredited hospitals. Our team comprises over 300 highly qualified doctors, including some of the most esteemed professionals in the healthcare field, who have made these Centres of Excellence possible.
Today, Ujala Cygnus has succeeded in making the Tier 2 & 3 towns of North India in which it operates, self-sufficient where world-class healthcare is concerned. It has institutionalised Centres of Excellence in Intensive Care, Neurology, and Cardiology. Communities in these underserved regions are now receiving state-of-the-art healthcare services, including Trauma, Cardiology, Cardiac surgery, High-end critical care, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Spine Surgery, Joint Replacement, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Paediatrics, Neonatology and Advanced Laparoscopy from the Ujala Cygnus group of hospitals.
Ujala Cygnus Healthcare Services operations span Northern India, with 25 multi-super speciality NABH accredited hospitals, making it the largest NABH accredited super-speciality hospital chain of the region. A team of over 500 highly-qualified doctors, including some of the finest names in the field of healthcare, have made these centres of excellence possible.
The company’s future plans are to provide inclusive primary and preventive healthcare access through innovative digital devices and solutions across regions of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab with an aim to establish 10 more hospitals in the next couple of years. The company is also looking to expand its footprints significantly in MP, Rajasthan and Bihar. Ujala Cygnus is also amplifying its services and activities to support the public health systems of the government, working consistently to deliver primary care facilities. Besides this, Ujala Cygnus is also working extensively on mental health, maternal mortality, equity, and access to health facilities in remote locations of Northern India as part of its Sustainable Development Goals.

Over the past decade, Nitin has been at the forefront of transforming Cloudnine - a pan-India hospital chain, driving operational excellence, enabling clinical innovation, and delivering patient-centric growth. Most recently, as Chief Operating Officer at Cloudnine Hospitals, Nitin led the chain’s national expansion, introduced new service lines, and revitalized underperforming facilities — thereby delivering tangible improvements in both performance and patient outcomes. His earlier role as COO of Manipal Ankur, the joint venture between Ankur and Manipal Hospitals, saw him establish the brand as a leader in fertility care. Nitin’s foundational years at Tech Mahindra and MphasiS helped shape his strategic acumen in business operations, M&A, and client success, which he now brings to the healthcare space with great impact. A doctor by training, a man of many parts, and a healthcare entrepreneur with indefatigable energy and belief, Dr Shuchin Bajaj, as Founder‑Director, has been instrumental in the entire journey of UjalaCygnus from its inception and from its very first avatar as CygnusMedicare and AltiusHealthcare. Driven by a missionary zeal to provide equitable healthcare access, Dr Bajaj stepped out of the safety of a promising career as a doctor soon after completing his MD in internal medicine. He embarked on his entrepreneurial venture of trying to provide the highest quality of healthcare to all communities—regardless of their financial, social, or geographic status—urged on by personal stories of friends and family who bore the brunt of living in healthcare-dark zones of India. An alumnus of INSEAD, King’s College London, IIM Calcutta, Boston University, and PGIMS Rohtak, Dr Bajaj continues to serve the cause through Ujala Cygnus and through working across the healthcare ecosystem, revitalising it beyond the well-provided metro regions. He serves on the boards of several prominent national NGOs as Advisor-Health Programmes. Prateek is a member of the founding team that led the creation of Ujala Cygnus Healthcare post-acquisition of Cygnus Medicare by Ujala Healthcare in 2019. He independently drove the investment in Cygnus Medicare and since then has played a pivotal role in helping the group grow from 9 hospitals to 25 hospitals and counting. As Chief of Strategy, Growth & Digital, Prateek drives the overall strategic initiatives of the group, including M&A and expansion plans, digital & IT transformation, integrated marketing efforts as well as the fundraising initiatives of the company. He is passionate towards driving innovative healthcare models to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to underserved India. Prior to his move to healthcare, Prateek was an ex-banking professional, having advised on M&A, debt, and private equity transactions worth ~ USD 1 billion during his stints at KPMG, Mumbai, in the Corporate Finance-M&A team, and Yes Bank, Mumbai, in the Structured Finance team.
